Letter of Credit

A documentary Letter of Credit is a conditional written obligation of the bank which issued it to remit a certain amount of money upon presentation of the documents the type and date of presentation of which is specified in the letter of credit. A letter of credit is an instrument which effectively secures the interests of each party to a transaction:
 

• to the buyer it guarantees compliance of delivery with the order,

Collection

Documentary collection is one of the most common forms of payment. It involves the Bank collecting a certain amount from a buyer on behalf of a seller in return for a release of documents by the seller or for securing payment on the terms defined in detail in the instruction of the party ordering the collection. Collection secures the seller against the risk of the trade partner taking delivery of goods without making payment, while allowing the buyer to postpone payment until receipt of delivery.
